Sweep the Leg

The past few years - for the spring and fall months – the dugout jacket made a comeback. I mean what could be better - right? I grew up idolizing the New York Mets and no one was cooler than Darryl Strawberry.

This spring, ready to place an ebay bid on my retro Mets dugout jacket I began to notice something peculiar - the dugout jacket was no longer the “it” sports attire of choice.

Replacing the dugout jacket is the often-despised Varsity Jacket. Not that I have any issues with the Varsity Jacket – it simply reminds me of the 12 kids in my high school (who made up the entire football team) walking around in their bright orange jackets everyday as if we didn’t go to a Jewish private school but rather played for the Dillon Panthers.

Well that being said I came to grips with things and even came close to purchasing one from Tokyo's own Rocksmith (Obama supporters from Tokyo!). How can you not appreciate this jacket? A little throwback for us 80’s babies who grew up waxing on and waxing off. Featuring the Cobra Kai emblem on the back. (Odd side note: William Zabka who played Daniel Larusso’s arch-nemesis and top Cobra Kai fighter, Johnny Lawrence, threw out the first pitch at the Fresno Grizzlies' recent 80’s night - weird.)

Just for the hell of it - here is DJ Khaled’s “I’m so Hood Remix”. Big Boi, rocking a dope Crooks and Castles Varsity Jacket, demonstrates why he is so hood.
